WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL THERAPY? Educational Therapists are trained to help individuals with learning and processing challenges improve their academic skills while also addressing attention, anxiety, and/or behavioral issues.
Educational Therapists focus on particular issues (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, executive functioning deficits, memory, attention, visual & auditory processing, and autism spectrum disorders) and use strategies called targeted interventions.
Educational Therapists are trained to recognize learning difficulties and how they affect academic progress and behavior. They can also recommend strategies for future use, such as techniques to improve reading comprehension, project planning, study skills, and test preparation.
While helping students improve their grades, tutors focus on a particular academic subject, such as math or science, while maintaining homework and test support. Tutors may not have the experience required to work with children who have learning and attention problems and remediate missing skills.
For improved overall learning, seek an
Educational Therapist.

Initial consultations are offered complimentary for 45 minutes with parents/guardians to discuss the client's background, learning needs, and application.
Educational Therapy services begin with parent/guardian agreement, a combination of review of records and baseline testing is completed, and this information is then used to create psychoeducational goals, which form the basis for proposing a service schedule. Next, a personalized, highly structured intervention program is designed and implemented to address the client’s developmentally appropriate learning needs. Engaging, current, relevant, and research-based methods and materials optimize memorable and meaningful 1:1 learning experiences that progress towards improved
independence, and confidence.
Educational Consulting services are comprehensive, addressing the other aspects of your child's education. This includes formal educational advocate work, testing, observation, review of additional records, synthesizing information and data, attending school meetings and conferences, collaboration with Allied Professionals (i.e., teachers, LEPs, doctors, specialists, and co.), facilitating communication, referrals and recommendations, writing reports, and providing guidance. This complete approach ensures that no aspect of your child's education is overlooked within the law.
Amanda Hurley is one of those magical educators that you and your child will never forget. She has gone so above and beyond for our son. We are eternally grateful for the time our son was gifted with such a fine teacher. She knew how to take his interests and motivate him to read and write (not an easy undertaking). She uses creativity and unwavering patience to reach students who may learn differently. We can't recommend her highly enough, and any student lucky enough to be taught by Amanda Hurley will benefit immensely. Forever grateful........

Our daughter recently transitioned to Ms. Hurley’s (and) over the 3 months to conclude her 4th grade year, she has shown better understanding of material taught, increased independence to complete assignments, and most importantly, is now enjoying learning. Ms. Hurley has implemented a course curriculum that enables the student to feel empowered and accomplished. We look forward to continued success in Ms. Hurley’s as our child will begin to navigate 5th grade. With (her) support, we feel confident she will enjoy and succeed in 5th grade.

My son is more of the creative type, loves to draw, build things and just has lots of creativity. He was having problems wanting to read, write and math! So the three subjects all at once needed to be worked on and improved. We worked with Ms. Hurley the summer before his 3rd grade year, and we continued his services through his 3rd grade school year, and for the 1st time he’s improved so much in all 3 subjects thanks to Ms. Hurley! We’ve been so happy seeing him grow and really get the confidence he needs to keep going through the rest of his school years.

It's great that you're branching out and doing this! You have been such a huge part of our son's life and words can't even say how much I appreciate you, and the effort and patience and work that you put in was above and beyond. I would write a wonderful testimonial and also if you ever need anything at all or if we can help you in any way please don't hesitate to ask.
Sometimes because of work and problems at home I don't feel like we are the greatest parents and it has been very hard to do everything and still participate in our child's schooling and his academic life in general. I feel like we have had to rely on you more than we should, and there are so many things that go by (like teacher appreciation day!!!) and we just end up being lame. So if there is anything I can do for you I am in your debt and I will always credit you as a major cause for our son's success in life.

Ms. Hurley has been instrumental in our child's growth and development. Things can get "crazy" at times trying to handle kids with different needs and ability levels, as well as concerned (protective) parents. She is more than capable of maintaining a progressive and positive learning environment that makes each kid feel cared for and special. In our particular case, Ms. Hurley took the time to listen to our son and was able to make changes with his IEP that allowed him to have the least restrictive environment. It was amazing to watch as our boy accepted new responsibilities and took ownership of his classwork, all under the watchful eye of Ms Hurley.

This is so wonderful! You will be amazing at Educational Therapy! Ms. Hurley is such an amazing educator. She has given my son who has a learning disability, guidance and tools to help him reach his full potential. He has overcome many academic challenges due to her hard work, dedication and love. As he moves on (in school), I know he will continue to grow, not just because of what he has learned, but because of the confidence that he gained.
